Porpoises came by today (top left) heading south in Newport Beach. The waves were small but the water was clear. That is Catalina Island in the background.
I must of seen about 15 different porpoises in about 3 different groups. There is one in the middle of this picture. It was 81 degrees and perfect weather today. Waater was about 56 degrees.
Three Starfish for my three amigos.
BAM!
I had the good fortune of seeing a metal tool fly off a trailer and hit my windshield in Phoenix AZ on my way to school. $500 deductible. $200 dollar fix.
We are staying in the Doubletree hotel in Anaheim and were over run by the Affliction promotion. Fedor vs Arlovski. Most of the fighters were in the lobby every night and so we kept seeing these guys with camera crews and groupies around. After the fight I decided to take a picture with the two Russian fighters that I shared a long elevator ride and became a groupie. This is mini Fedor below. He lost. Big shiner on his eye.
This dude below is the real deal and champion. Fedor. I think I can take him. I didn't know much about these guys so I googled them and found out that the promoter of the fight is Tom Atencio. I used to be on the same soccer team as Tom when we were in the 8th grade.
This is Fedor Monday morning when he was leaving the hotel. He was pretty cool in the lobby so I asked if I could take a picture with him also. He smiled and put his arm around me like we were friends. I am a groupie! I also shared another elevator with Arlovski the night before the fight and asked him: "Are you fighting tomorrow night?" Arlovski - "grunt" Ty - Good Luck I hope you win" Arlovski - "grunt" and head nod. He lost. I think some highlights are on Youtube.
The first Saturday we had off I had a chance to go surfing in Newport Beach at 54th Street. I had to fix the nose of my board with some resin before I could get out in the water. It took me about 20 minutes to fix it in the sun. I used to surf here as a kid and everything still looked the same. I didn't remember the beach houses costing millions of dollars though.
It was low tide and the jetties were exposed to the ends.
The tourist/week-end warrior is getting in the water. Yikes.
The jetties of course are covered in mussels.
Barnacles were everywhere too.
I saw a couple of Starfish in the rocks and upon further inspection found the mother load! I must of seen about 35 just on this jettie.
As I looked closer I found some classic California tide pool creatures. This sea anemone was pretty big. I broke off some mussels and threw them against the rocks like the old days and gave some of them a feast.
They had multiple shells attached to them that looked like an art project of Tia.
I was taking a picture of some barnacles and saw of few of these guys also. Deep in the cracks of the rocks. Patiently waiting for some food.
It was rainy for the last couple of days and it seemed to keep the crowds away. I was able to catch about 25 waves until my arms became spaghetti noodles.
At the Double tree they have these beautiful birds of paradise all over the grounds. I did laundry tonight and was taking a picture of them when my little friend appeared out of nowhere to get in my picture. I could hear him buzzing around but I didn't see him until I took this picture and later saw it on my camera.
