Daddy Daughter Campout

This was our first Daddy Daughter camp out and it was a memorable one. Click on the picture if you want to see their crazy faces. It all started a week early with the weather report forecasting 54 degrees on Saturday with rain, and snow down to 5500 feet with a high wind advisory. Ummm yeah. Parker Canyon is about 5400 feet. Can't get any better than that. So I tried to talk Tia out of going but I did not have any luck. We ended up carpooling with the Clothiers. We left about 3 PM and stopped at Jack in the box for some chicken strips. We arrived at Parker Canyon Lake about 5:30 PM. It was very windy and blue skies. The Bisels, Wilsons and Johnsons were there and warned us to bolt our tents down. We did. The girls had a great time talking in the tent then getting kicked out and going into the car and getting kicked out and going into someone else's tent to have their girl time. They also formed a secret club down by the lake and the Dad's were not allowed in the sacred zone. We cooked hot dogs over the open fire and then made some smores. The full moon rose up in the East and the clouds started to roll in. Good thing we secured our tent because about 3 in the morning it got crazy. The rain started to hit the tent about 1 AM with the nasty winds shaking the tent all night. I woke up about 3 AM with the tent shaking and I thought it might blow over so I grabbed the side walls and held on tight. Tia woke up with a scared look on her face and we rode out the micro burst. I knew it had to do damage somewhere so I opened up my tent to look out and saw Ben Clothier trying to fix something on his tent. I got dressed and went over to his tent to see if everything was ok. He said the wind broke his tent pole and ripped his tent. He said it should be ok if the rain stops. It did. For a little while. I went back to sleep and the rain came back and then I heard a voice. Ty your car is locked where's your keys? I looked out the of the tent and Ben was freezing with no shoes on and wet. I told him to hop in our tent and ride it out so he ran back in his bare feet to get his three daughters and their stuff. It looked like Vietnam with him running in the rain carrying his daughters while the heavy rain blew sideways. What an awesome Dad.
We made it through the night and tried some fishing in the morning and called it good. We were home by 12.
