Temple Square 2010
We love Temple Square. Our little family started in Salt Lake City on December 13, 1996 when Ruth and I met at a church dance in Sandy, Utah. We were later married on September 13, 1997 in the Salt Lake City temple for time and all eternity. Since then our family has grown to 5. Our three little children have been a blessing to us and we try to take them to temple square every time we visit Grandpa and Grandma Snow to share how special it is to us and our family. Sorry about getting churchy in this post but I wanted to share how we feel about our temple.
Isaiah 2:2
And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and all nations shall flow unto it.
Isaiah 2:3
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
Malachi 4:5
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children. and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
“Let us be a temple-attending people. Attend the temple as frequently as personal circumstances allow. Keep a picture of a temple in your home that your children may see it. Teach them about the purposes of the House of the Lord. Have them plan from their earliest years to go there and to remain worthy of that blessing.”
Howard W. Hunter Nov. 1994
These are the door handles on the west side of the temple that face the Tabernacle.
Holiness to the Lord. Above the handle is two hands clasped together and the years 1853 to 1893 for the 40 years it took to complete the building. The location of the temple was first marked by Brigham Young on July 28, 1847. The temple site was dedicated by Brigham Young on February 14, 1853 with the corner stone being laid on April 6, 1853. The capstone 40 years later was laid on April 6, 1892 and finally completed and dedicated by Wilford Woodruff on April 6, 1893 after the interior was finished. Many of my ancestors worked on this temple and I consider it very sacred ground. There is a peaceful feeling on the grounds and we hope that our children will recognize that spirit and learn to love the temple.
Revelations 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
